ETCO ABSL Miniball Competitions

What is Miniball?

  • Basketball programme for Year 3-8 (7-13 years old) participants.

  • Skill development and game component.

  • Both 3x3 and 5x5 opportunities.

  • Basketball for all abilities.

Why the change from previous leagues?

We have changed from delivering just a 5v5 league with games to a 3x3 programme which also includes a skill development component. This change has been made for a number of reasons with a focus to help remove barriers that limit participation and to help develop an understanding of the fundamental skills required to enjoy the game.

Player Benefits:

  • Skill development

  • More touches of the ball per player

  • More opportunities to be in a decision making position

  • High paced game

  • Multi-faceted sessions to keep them engaged

School/Team Benefits:

  • Removes the requirement for a coach.

  • Fewer numbers are required.

  • Transport – with no more than 5 players needed only one car is required per team.

  • Lower costs per team.

Will all leagues change to 3x3 leagues?

No not at all leagues will be moving to this format. We will be focussing this on our Year3/4 and Year 5/6 age groups to make sure they have a sound understanding of the fundamentals to serve them well moving forward.

How many players do we need?

  • All 3x3 Miniball leagues require a minimum of 3 players per team and no more than 5.

  • All 5x5 leagues require a minimum of 5 players and a maximum of 10.

Is there a weekly draw?

No, you register for a time slot relevant to your team's grade and show up to participate at this time each week.

How long is each session?

Sessions are scheduled for 1 hour with the Skill Development Component taking 20-30 Minutes and Games to be played for the remainder. Games will be between 6-8 minutes with teams rotating on and off the court.

Is this a competition?

No, all 3x3 leagues will be non-competitive with scores not being kept. This is to make sure that the emphasis is on having fun and developing skills.
