Run and Gun Term 3 Review and Results

The fifth termly Run and Gun Club Challenge was held over the past weekend at ASB Stadium, with 28 teams spanning over the 3 age groups it was a massive day of hoops and all teams came out exhausted but happy.

In our Under 9 tournament we had 6 club teams there giving it their all, having a few very close games and the games were ultra fun and showed off some great fundamentals. The final  was intense but the Orakei Tigers managed to pull out the victory against a strong West City Saints team and for 3rd and 4th the Tamaki Tornadoes and the Central Cougars had a close final game with the Cougars able to get a 2 point win.

In the Under 11s had some excellent basketball played, with 2 pools of teams, it came down to a points countback to find out our finalist. In the finals it pitted the MAVS teams against the reigning champion Otahuhu Taniwha team, both team earnt hard fought victories over their pool opponents but in the finals it was a back and forth affair with the Taniwhas making a clutch And 1 lay up to ice the game and win by 1 points. 19 – 18 to the U11 Taniwhas

For our Premier under 13 grade we saw the rise and development of our new clubs that competed at a very high level. The Waiheke Island and Tamaki Tornados had a great tournament placing 2nd and 3rd respectively in a very hard pool with a 4 way tie at the end of the round. Otahuhu Taniwha went through the pool play undefeated. In the cross over final it pitted the Saints vs the Taniwha in an exciting and close final that went down to the wire. The Saints however were just good enough to squeak the win by 2 points.

Thank you to all the Referees, Managers , Players , Coaches and our ABSL staff for making the day a success, the placing are there but the event was judged on how many players had fun and enjoyed the day of basketball.

Our next event in on December 14th so heaps of time to develop your players and get them geared up to win the last one for 2014.
