Over the past week, we partnered with the Auckland Huskies leading up to their Sals NBL home match at The Trusts Stadium against the Southland Sharks. This allowed schools from Central, West, and South Auckland to meet players, deliver their own media session and take part in the gameday experience.
It kicked off with a press conference held at Glen Eden Primary School, it was not the media grilling the Huskies but 20 students who took the opportunity to ask the players a range of questions from what their pre-game routine is, how did they get to where they are, what anime they enjoy, and the uncomfortable question of who the best player in the team is. There were a lot of laughs and smiles throughout with the players loving the chance to get the kids on the court and into their element for a skill session.
Huskies Players & Glen Eden Primary Students
Four lucky Miniball teams representing Churchill Park School, Kauri Flats School, Pasadena Intermediate, and Pt Chevalier School won the opportunity to take part in the Auckland Huskies gameday experience. The teams were given the chance to play pre-game to the Auckland Huskies vs Southland Sharks Sals NBL match held at The Trusts Arena. First up was Churchill Park taking on Pt Chev in a battle of the year 5/6 grade with a tight match ending in a draw. Following this match, it was end to end action with the year 7/8 teams representing Kauri Flats and Pasadena. Coming out on top Pasadena taking out the match in the end. The teams from Pasadena and Churchill Park were then able to get on the court again and formed a guard of honour as the Huskies players were announced, both Pt Chev and Kauri Flats were represented in the 3/4 break Sal’s Pizza slice grab earning their teams a nice snack for later on.
This was a great opportunity for all involved and an experience that will stick with these young ballers for a lifetime.
A huge thank you to Matt and the Auckland Huskies for making this possible and the time taken by all parents and teachers to help make sure this opportunity wasn’t missed.
