Kia ora everyone,
We trust that you and your whānau remain safe and secure in your 'bubble' at home.
Further to our announcement on the 19th March 2020 suspending all community basketball until Term 2, and following the announcement by the Prime Minister yesterday extending the level 4 lockdown for another week before moving to Level 3, we wish to update the community on the current suspension of community basketball ( including all ABSL leagues, competitions and ABSL Club activities).
Unfortunately, basketball is not permitted under Level 3 conditions. The Government advised that it will be reviewing whether to move from Level 3 on 11th May 2020. The situation remains very fluid and capable of change at short notice. As a result of this ongoing uncertainty we have no choice but to extend the suspension of community basketball (comprising all ABSL leagues, competitions and ABSL club activities) until the 24th May 2020.
This suspension will be reassessed after the Government’s review on 11th May 2020. ABSL’s intention is to continue to track closely the Governments management of the Covid 19 outbreak to ensure the health and safety of the basketball community. To help manage expectations, it should be noted that we ceased community basketball at Level 2 and it would not be unreasonable to expect that conditions allowing community basketball will not exist until we are back at Level 1. If the circumstances change, we will certainly let everyone know.
In the meantime, stay safe and stay home. We look forward to seeing you courtside before too long.
Ngā mihi nui,
