Coronavirus Response

Dear Basketballers, Parents and Caregivers,

As you will know from media reports, the situation concerning coronavirus is rapidly evolving internationally. Health and safety is a key priority for the people within our ABSL basketball community.

As we are returning to our basketball leagues and clubs, we wish to ensure we are responsible as we endeavour to minimise the risks to our community of players and supporters. As you may be aware, advice from the Ministry of Education is that any person who may be a high risk of exposure because they have recently been to China or have been in close contact with someone confirmed with the virus is asked to delay the start of their school year for 14 days and voluntarily stay away. ABSL would like to implement this same requirement for the start or our leagues and clubs.

If you have recently been in China or have been in close contact with someone confirmed with the coronavirus , we request you to delay attending our leagues and or clubs for 14 days from the date of your return or contact.

This is a new virus and it's specific nature is currently unclear, however it appears that you can have the virus at an early stage and not be showing any symptoms. The incubation period is currently considered to be up to 14 days.

As always, anyone who is unwell should not be attending our leagues. Parents with a particular concern about any child are urged to contact Healthline at 0800 611 116 or their GP for medical advice. Healthline has translators and interpreters available 24/7 in 150 languages and they do have Mandarin and Cantonese speaking staff available.

You can read more about advice concerning coronavirus from the Ministry of Education here and the Ministry of Health here.

Many thanks,

The Team at ABSL.
