The Aon U15 and U17 National Tournaments were held over the long weekend and a special shoutout needs to be made to our hosts Canterbury Basketball and the team of volunteers who allowed this fantastic tournament to happen.
There was a lot of success for our ABSL teams in the U15 Tournament including the following:
Basketball Auckland U15 Boys – Placed 2nd and earned themselves a silver medal. A huge congratulations to the boys who made the Tournament Team; Barri Merimo, William Short and Keller Young.
Waitakere West Auckland U15 Boys – Placed 3rd to claim bronze with Dante Matakatea making the Tournament Team.
Counties Manukau U15 Boys – Placed 4th with George Turner and William Passi earning a spot in the Tournament Team.
Basketball Auckland U15 Girls – Placed 9th after an amazing effort in their tournament.
The U17 Tournaments were hotly contested with the ABSL reps finishing as follows:
Basketball Auckland U17 Boys – Placed 4th after a hard-fought tournament with Sataan Tawera earning a place in the Tournament Team.
Counties Manukau U17 Boys – Placed 9th so a big congratulations to them for their efforts.
Waitakere West Auckland U17 Boys – Placed 3rd, a well-deserved bronze medal for them and a tremendous effort of Dontae Russo-Nance and Ethan Skelton to make the Tournament Team.
Basketball Auckland U17 Girls – Placed 8th and we would like to thank the two players from Southland who travelled and played with the Auckland team.
The Counties and Waitakere West Auckland U17 Girls combo team – Placed 10th and we would also like to thank them for their efforts.
Congratulations to everyone who took part and a special mention to our podium finishers and those who made the Tournament Team, it is a high honour to even be selected and you should all be proud of yourselves.
Once again ABSL would like to thank everyone that made their way to the tournament weekend, the future of basketball in Aotearoa is truly in safe hands, bring on 2021!
