Simon Whyte (Independent Chairperson)
Originally a commercial lawyer with large law firms in both New Zealand and London, Simon moved into senior corporate positions in the tourism, gaming and infrastructure sectors including Enerco New Zealand, Sky City Auckland, United Networks and SKF New Zealand. Simon is an owner and director of Rebus Group Limited, a Trustee of the Lion Foundation and is a director of AA Smartfuel Limited and several private companies.
Aaron Leslie (Waitakere West Auckland Basketball Representative)
Aaron has been involved in coaching west Auckland high school and representative basketball for the last 7 years, two of his daughters play at a high level with one on a basketball scholarship in the USA. His love for the game started as a teenager and has played socially for over 20 years. Aaron brings a commercial background to the ABSL board with over 20 years’ experience in the produce industry within New Zealand and internationally.
Ollie Bryce (Waitakere West Auckland Basketball Representative)
Ollie a former executive member for a number of basketball entities bringing his experience as a development coach with international experiences as a national head coach and as an assistant at USA colleges, a global hands on perspective of basketball administration and coaching to the region.
Denise Atkins (Basketball Auckland Representative)
Denise is a current Board member of Basketball Auckland and a senior lecturer in Sport and Recreation at AUT University. Denise has governance experience in the not-for-profit sector and having taught health and physical education for a number of decades is passionate about enjoying and competing in sport. Denise has played basketball since her teenage years and coached girls teams to representative level. As a player Denise represented Hawkes Bay and Canterbury at the junior levels and Canterbury and NZ Universities as a senior player.
Chris Ford (Basketball Auckland Representative)
Chris is a company director and business owner with interests in the building and construction sector. Chris was previously the Group Sales and Marketing Manager for Pacific Steel, a Fletcher Building Business and Marketing Manager for New Zealand Steel and South East Asian Sales Manager for Carter Holt Harvey. Chris is the Chairman of the Basketball Auckland Board and Director of the Auckland Pirates.
Leisa Siteine (Counties Manukau Basketball Representative)
Leisa brings vast experience to the ABSL board through her experience in local Council in the world of Arts and Events. This knowledge will assist the direction of maintaining the local culture and flavour in the respected areas as well as increasing the quality of event delivery within ABSL. Leisa is currently working for the Auckland Council in the Events and Tourism department.
Georgie Witehira (Counties Manukau Basketball Representative)
Georgie is a Business owner in the Property sector after a lengthy career in Leisure Facility Operations for Manukau/Auckland City Council. Georgie is the current Chairperson of Counties Manukau Basketball and has had an involvement with the game for over 40 years. As a player Georgie represented Auckland, North Harbour and Counties Manukau at the senior level and was a national junior captain. She was the assistant coach of the national women’s team in their bid for Olympic representation in 1988, coach of Koru age group teams, and continues to coach today.
