On Monday 28th August, ABSL was proud to co-host this year’s Steven Adams camp with our good friends at SportsPathways. Approximately 600 children aged 7-17 years old participated and got to meet our Kiwi NBA superstar at Bruce Pulman Arena in Takanini. It was a great experience for the children as they got to learn from some great former New Zealand players/coaches such as Mark Dickel, Troy McLean, Everard Bartlett and ABSL’s very own Lindsay Tait.
Coaches from the Oklahoma City Thunder were also present to help share their basketball knowledge to our rising stars. Steven Adam’s teammate Andre Roberson was also there and the children enjoyed every moment of their presence.
The camp was a great experience for the children and we are sure that they will not forget the day they got to meet and showcase their skills to Steven. After a long day of learning fundamental skills and participating in fun drills, the campers were treated to a half court scrimmage which featured some older campers and Steven matching up against Andre. Steven dunked the last basket to win the scrimmage! It was a fitting ending to the camp as all the participants witnessed what Steven does best and that’s finishing strong!
A special thank you to Spinnerchild Photography for capturing great photos throughout the day. You can view these on our Facebook page.
Thank you to all volunteers and ABSL staff for helping make the day run as smoothly as possible. Finally, ABSL would also like to thank the Steven Adams camp crew for bringing the camp to South Auckland.
We hope to see you all again next year!
