On Saturday November 4th ABSL held the first of three PREP4REP camps at Bruce Pulman Arena. It was a great day for all Counties Manukau, Waitakere West and Auckland representative coaches and athletes. The camp focused on preparing the U15, U17 and U19 athletes for the upcoming 2018 Representative Season.
A maximum of 12x stations were set up and were led by various coaches. They got to rotate to different stations and challenge their respective coaching abilities. Stations were 10-12 minutes long and the athletes and coaches got to learn technical aspects relating to 1v1 situations, passing and cutting, screens, post moves, catch and shoot, defensive principles, ball handling, hand off actions and passing under pressure.
All representative coaches got to learn new drills from each other and the camp was a great development opportunity for new coaches. A lot of experienced coaches such as ABSL’s own Tall Ferns Assistant coach Aik Ho and former Tall Black Lindsay Tait got amongst the great development opportunity. The athletes were great to coach and showed a desire to learn and absorb as much information as they could. Parents also got to witness their children courtside and may have picked up drills by observing which is great for individual athlete development.
A huge thank you to all coaches, volunteers and parents for taking time out of their busy schedules to help our representative players develop!
The second PREP4REP camp will take place on December 16th at Bruce Pulman Area.
