Fiba Oceania - Tall Blacks come up short against the Boomers

The Australian Boomers held off a hard-charging New Zealand Tall Blacks side to book their ticket to the Rio Olympics with a 89-79 victory at TSB Arena in Wellington.

A tough game in a sold out arena for the Tall Blacks with the goal of winning by 13 or more to get qualification to the Rio Olympics.

Australia scored at will in transition to start the game off and picked up right where they left in Melbourne gaining a 21-14 lead in the first quarter.

Needing to take the final three quarters by 20 points in order to capture the Al Ramsay Shield and with it automatic qualification to Rio, the Tall Blacks making a run was imminent. Seven straight Isaac Fotu points capped that run and the Australians were forced to call timeout with their buffer reduced to just three.

But it was too little to late as the Boomers took the series 2-0 to reclaim the series.

The tallblacks had 3 Players from Auckland and Counties Manukau, Veteran Point Guard Lindsay Tait, Athletic Swingman Rueben Te Rangi and Débutante Point Guard Shea Ili who picked up his first points as a Tall Black
