Earlier this month the U12 Counties Manukau squad travelled to New Plymouth to participate in Jamboree 2018. 10 players (Kyran, Lyronz, Marquez, Spencer, John, Elijah, Horua, Andre, Fayelin, & Larissa), 2 junior referees (Amelia & Teagan), coach Ayla and managers Georgie & Rachel made the trip down together. The squad joined 115 athletes from associations North of Taranaki and stayed at New Plymouth Boys High School. The two and a half days of basketball development for players, coaches, officials, & management was an awesome experience for everyone!
Kyran’s statement from Jamboree -
I really loved the Jamboree camp - the pools, sleeping in our dorms, the food and I enjoyed winning the knockout competition. I was there to learn basketball skills like shooting techniques, dribbling, layups, etc... What I loved the most was the pass and cut move, and the 4 vs 4 games. My favourite things were, winning the knockout competition and I got to compete in the layup final. My team went to the finals but we came up short and I loved it overall.
Lyronz’ statement from Jamboree -
I loved the fact that I could learn techniques of basketball and help develop my game. My favourite drill was the fast break pass and cut station. We stayed at new Plymouth Boys High School. I had good nights and bad nights where people would just not stop talking. The breakfast and dinner was delicious! I was so gutted that we lost all of our games even though my mum said it's not about winning it is how you develop as a player.
The U12 squad will now focus on the upcoming Super City tournament during U13 representative season later on this year!
